Sometimes you think things are moving along marvelously. You have been out of prison for a while. You stop looking over your shoulder in reflexive paranoia. You think you are building relationships.
Then the phone ring.
“We have information you are a convicted felon.”
“We have to look in to our next steps.”
I can’t exactly recall much of the conversation. My dread put a block on many of the cliches.
And so now I wait for another phone call to see if I can continue professionally where I am really needed and useful.
I filled out their background check form truthfully. I don’t know what they did with it prior to making me an offer. I assumed they must be forgiving and generous people.
We will find out when the phone rings again in a couple days.
Other shoes.
