I see that Charles Kushner, whom Chris Christie described as having committed “one of the most loathsome, disgusting crimes that I prosecuted,” has been confirmed as the US Ambassador to France. Nice work if you can get it. To give Chuckie his due, when he testified to the Senate during his confirmation hearing, he did say that he had made “a very, very, very serious mistake and I paid a heavy price for that mistake,” and argued that his “past mistakes” would make him “more qualified to do this job.” That’s exactly what the guy who was applying for the custodian job at the Capitol said before they laughed in his face and told him to get his rap-sheeted ass out of there. Pardon me? No, pardon Chuckie K!
It all goes to show that it’s not how you are rehabilitated but who “rehabilitates” you. Is Kushner dangerous? Probably a bit more than my custodian applicant and me, but that’s mainly because he sits closer to power, and that position in itself makes someone more dangerous. Does it show that the American penal system is a useless performance for political benefit? You bet.
