Here’s another treat. Skateboard felt that prison wasn’t really being represented in musical theater, especially in the wholesome, family-friendly form of stagecraft that represented an era when American was truly great. Therefore, he had his characters develop a musical that could be fun for prisoners of all ages. I won’t spend much time setting this one up, save to say that the character Chainsaw is about 6’5″ and 300 pounds and serving 20+ years. He was also a friend. He got that nickname because there was a new guy on the housing unit and he was asking whether there was somebody around who repaired radios. The guy who was showing him around said, “Yeah, a guy in the cell right there.” “Which one?” asked the new guy. “That chainsaw-killer-lookin motherfucker,” replied his guide. The name stuck.
PS. When Skateboard sent the comic over to me, it was in an envelope with the return address “Richard Rodgers.”
