Going right along with the Minnesota CO harassing BLM protesters, the sheriff’s office serving dealy search warrants in NC, Derek Chauvin, and countless other incidents, we are also being treated to this bit of criminality from the Loveland, CO Police Department. Or as CNN puts it: “Woman with dementia sues city of Loveland, police officers, alleging excessive use of force in 2020 arrest.” You don’t have to ask yourself when it will end, because it’s not going to end. This is how the system is set up to function. This is it humming right along in the name of public safety. You’d swear that this whole institution was dreamt up by Sgt. Schultz of Hogan’s Heroes fame.
Back in 2017, I was moved to write a limerick about the culture of denial that buttresses such malfeasance. Ready?
In prison, your boss just exclaims That he's shocked! shocked! (just like Claude Rains). There's not one misdeed That he's ever seed. His integrity's matched by his brains.
Call it a wall of silence or an omerta. Even with every camera in the world trained on the injustice system, every bad act will always be minimized and justified. This is how we create a safe distinction between the innocents and the criminals. Even if you’re an innocent, you need to just shut up and take it. It’s the dues you must pay, and if you try to run, you might get shot.
